Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) - With its sweet-scented leaves it is known to calm the nervous and digestive systems, with the additional benefits of enhancing the immune system. Lemon Balm is a member of the mint family, it has also been known to be a featured remedy for anxiety, melancholy, nervousness and a host of viral and bacterial infections.
Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnata) -A natural sedative used for its soothing properties. Aids in reducing, anxiety, headaches, tension, stress and may relieve insomnia.
Lemon Verbena (Aloysia citrodora) - A natural relaxant, calming for the mind and body. May relieve stress, nervousness, stomach ache and period pain. Rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds.
Lemongrass (Cymbopogon) - Has a cooling effect and is high in antioxidants and an anti-inflammatory. Used as a natural remedy for hot flashes, bloating and digestive problems by soothing and lessening stomach cramps and spasms.
Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile) - Exceedingly gentle but very effective. Offers excellent support for the nervous and digestive systems. The flowers when used in tea may ease stress and nervousness, promoting sleep and aiding in digestion.
Herbal teas have been used for thousands of years by pregnant and breastfeeding women for the health benefits they may bring. Surprisingly there is limited research in the effects of these herbs. It is usually okay to drink herbal tea during pregnancy but should be limited to 1-2 cups per day especially in the first trimester.
